Perched on southern Tzoumerka,among fir trees, at an altitude of 700 m (at the village square)with its top in 2,393 m, Athamanio is the largest and most populous village of the Municipality of Kentrika Tzoumerka, 64 km from Arta and  90 km from Trikala.

Green, full of fir and plane trees, and crystal clear waters, Athamanio has many stone-built arched bridges, with the famous Tsagarakis bridge  as well as stone fountains. Because of its favorable climate, there are two camps in the village for both children and students during the summer months.

Pay a visit to the Folklore Museum, the fulling and the watermill in Agia Kyriaki, which are still in full operation and, of course, the picturesque paved square where the church of Koimisis Theotokos is situated with ,its two great plane trees, one of which  is over a hundred years old and covers almost half the area. The village has 5 traditional guesthouses as well as cafes and restaurants.

Athamanio is also suitable for hikers and cyclists, as the beautiful pine-tree forest of Ai -Giannis ,with its wonderful paths, is within walking distance. During the summer months one can enjoy swimming at the famous beach of the Acheloos river in Terpna, within a fifteen – minute drive.
